wrong side of the road (1) the backstory

I am a licensed driver in the US and I have been licensed for 12 years. Now I need to learn it all again. You are probably wondering if I've had some horrible freak accident and lost all of my memories associated with driving. Well, I and if I had it would actually make learning a new way of driving easier. My problem has nothing to do with my ability to drive, it has to do with where I am right now. I grew up in US and that's where I learned to drive, I have been living in England for the past few months. my experience, when you're switching to a different way of driving, less driving you have done before, the easier it will be for you to adapt.

VOCAB: allowance příspěvek ... antsy jako na jehlách ... back story pozadí (vysvětlení) ... freak prapodivný, ulítlý ... paperwork / red tape papírování ... settle in zabydlet se ... take one's time nespěchat ... touchy podrážděný ... upkeep údržba

Now I have moved to a foreign country, I have to get used to doing a lot of things very differently. Since I arrived London earlier this year there have been a lot of things that I have been struggling with. As driving, the back story would be helpful, I guess. Last time I wrote I was worried about a job. I had applied for one and was waiting to hear them. They took their time letting me know and in the meantime I became a little antsy and touchy and kind of difficult to be . Anyway, I ended getting the job. Yay! Good for me! I'm so excited to start working. I've been here long to settle in. Now it's time for me to finally have a regular paycheck.

However, I found out a few weeks ago that there was tons of paperwork needed filling in. I hate dealing with red tape, especially in a foreign country. Also, various references will apparently need calling, is going to be pretty time-consuming. On the plus side, I'm about to start my first full-time job in a foreign country and that's something celebrating. With the position came a car allowance or a company car. My choice. After thinking it I decided to get a car and then use the car allowance its upkeep, gas, insurance, etc. I found a 2001 Skoda Fabia that seemed like a good deal.
